History

Based on many years of experience in the field of ophthalmology, Martin Bürki started as an independent, one-man business in 1995 with individual products for ophthalmologists who perform eye surgeries.

In the following years, the focus was on the first generations of reusable irrigation and aspiration (I/A) handpieces, which were still made of aluminium at the time, and on individual items, such as choppers.

1996: Beginning of the development of the first aluminium electromagnetic cutters.

1998: Introduction of quality managment compliant to ISO 9001 and the EC Directive 93/42/EWG relating to medical devices.

2000: Development of the Megavit line with electromagnetic drive and cutting head systems.

2003: The company is reincorporated as a public limited corporation under Swiss law.

2004: Development and design of the first products for single use.

In the years that followed, the company systematically expanded its development and production capacities. The number of employees continued to increase.

At the onset of 2011, Martin Bürki entered into a partnership with Gianni Müller.

In subsequent years, the product portfolio and different country markets were continually expanded and developed.

In February 2014, Bürki moved into its new business space at Industriestrasse 67 in Widnau, St. Gallen (Switzerland).
